BEACH TRIP

On Wednesday Room 2 went to Tangimoana beach. This trip had been postponed from Term 2 when we were learning about endangered animals. One of the ways we thought we could help was to pick up the rubbish from one of our local beaches. We picked up seven bags of rubbish!! We had a great day exploring Tangimoana beach and making huts from driftwood. We also had morning tea and lunch at Tangimoana school which had a fantastic playground. To top off our day Miss McCartin surprised us with an ice-cream at Bulls playground on our way back home! A huge thank you to Mrs Alcock, Mrs Fryer, Mrs Darragh, Mrs Allen and Mrs Christiansen for providing transport and making the day possible!

MUSIC

We are learning to play the piano as part of our music unit. It is quite tricky but we are starting to identify the keys on the piano. Look out for us at the end of the term to hear a song or two on the keyboards!

Scientists!

We have been having lots of fun with our science experiments. We have learnt a lot about what happens when acids and carbonates are mixed together. We can think like a scientist too, predict, observe, explain!

Check out our sherbet and chemical popguns we have made!

PET DAY

Today was Pet Day! We had calves, lambs, dogs, rabbits, mice, chickens, goats and cats! For those of us who didn’t have pets we made miniature sand saucer farms. It was a fantastic day!

FIZZING AND FOAMING

In science we have been learning about reactions! We mixed acids and carbonates together to see what would happen.
To think like a scientist we need to:
·       Predict (what we think is going to happen)
·       Observe (what actually happens)
·       Explain (what we saw and why it happened)

Dance sharing!

We performed our dances in front of the school. We have been working hard on these dances for the last 5 weeks. Our first dance was "Blame it on the Boogie" by Jackson Five and our second was "The Jiffy Mixer", a traditional folk dance. It was great fun and we really enjoyed sharing them with the school!

Inventions sharing!

We shared our inventions with the rest of the school. It was great to share what we had done and to see what others had made too!

INVENTIONS!

We have been working through our design book. As you saw in our previous post, we had planned our first ideas. We have now written a list of instructions on how to play our game and gathered the materials needed.

It was a lot of fun making our practice games but it was hard work!
Once we had finished our games we played it with a buddy. We had to discuss with them what we liked about their game, what we didn’t like about their game and something they could do to improve it.

We are now in the modifying stage of our design process. We are making changes and reflecting on what we are doing all the time so our final game is fantastic!
